Charlotte Evelyn Cohen, age 78, passed away peacefully in Austin, Texas, on May 8, 2026. She was born on September 29, 1947, in Gary, Indiana, to Kathryn and Arthur Bebber, and was raised in Hobart, Indiana alongside her three younger sisters. Charlotte often described her childhood as one filled with love, laughter, and joyful adventures with her family. She was particularly fond of the Lake Michigan dunes. Charlotte met the love of her life, Harold Cohen, in a college psychology class, beginning a partnership that would span 58 years of deep companionship, devotion, and shared adventure. Together they built a life filled with curiosity, resilience, and connection, living in Indiana and Texas before eventually settling in Arizona, where they spent 37 cherished years together. A lifelong learner with a passion for helping others, Charlotte earned her Master's degree in Library Science and dedicated many years to working in university and community college libraries. She found great joy in supporting students, encouraging learning, and creating welcoming spaces for discovery and growth. Charlotte and Harold shared a love of travel and exploration, visiting places throughout the world including the United Kingdom, Italy, Israel, China, and Australia. Whether traveling abroad or spending time with loved ones at home, Charlotte embraced life with warmth, humor, and enthusiasm. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Harold and by her parents, Kathryn and Arthur Bebber. She is survived by her son Ben Cohen and his wife Diane; her daughter Sarah and her husband William; her cherished grandchildren Rachel, Alex, and Blake; her beloved sisters Anita, Mary, and Artha; and her dear brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Eli and Betty. Charlotte was truly full of life and was often described as a "ray of sunshine." She laughed easily, loved deeply, and extended kindness and generosity not only to family and friends, but also to strangers whose lives she touched along the way. Her warmth, humor, and bright spirit will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew her. Her family wishes to express heartfelt gratitude to the Ozoas and the staff of South Austin Assisted Living, as well as to Hospice Austin, for the compassionate, gentle, and skilled care they provided during the final chapter of her life. Funeral and burial services will be held Wednesday, 13 May 2026 at 10:00 a.m. at Eloise Woods Natural Burial Park, 115 Northside Ln., Cedar Creek, Texas 78612.
