Arnold Charles Allen

Captain Arnold C. Allen, a proud United States Naval Academy graduate and dedicated officer, passed away peacefully on Monday morning. After attending the Naval Academy, Arnie served with distinction for multiple decades, retiring with the rank of Captain from the Nuclear Submarine program. Even in retirement, his devotion to service continued through the Naval Reserves and by assisting with admissions screening for the Naval Academy in New Mexico, helping guide the next generation of naval leaders. Following his military career, Arnie channeled his passion for entrepreneurship into the business world. After carefully evaluating numerous ventures, he founded Battery Power Specialists, an automotive battery distribution company that he grew into the largest battery store in New Mexico. Beyond his professional and military achievements, Arnie found his greatest joy in family--coaching his three sons in sports, mentoring others in his community, and serving on several boards. 1991 brought Arnie to Houston, Texas. Having sold his business, he came looking for a new venture. There he not only found a job, but he found the love of his life, Andie. The new job took Arnie to Denver, Colorado, and after much convincing, Andie sold her Houston home and interior design business, married the man, and moved to Denver. Coincidentally, Denver was Andie's birthplace and still home of many relatives and friends. Professionally Arnie's career took another turn when he was hired by Bolder, as in bold, a Golden, CO firm specializing in a new battery technology. Arnie rose to the ranks of VP but burned out when the company went public. It took the "fun" out of it, he said. Thus, in 1999, urged by a friend who said he would be a great "headhunter", Arnie decided to start a new business and formed his own firm, Impact, an executive placement firm specializing in the battery industry. Life in Denver was good, and it was a wonderful opportunity for Arnie to become a dear part of Andie's family and old childhood friends. However, because Andie yearned to be back in Texas, they settled on Austin, joined the newly founded Temple Beth Shalom and formed "to this day" many wonderful friendships. His business did very well, and after 16 years he retired to a life of swimming 2 miles, 5 days per week, joking with "the guys" in the breakfast group and the lunch group, enjoying some travel and evenings out with wife and friends. Although the past 3 1/2 years following his mesothelioma diagnosis were difficult, in total his was a well lived life, a life of discipline, integrity and deep commitment to his wife, family and friends. He will be missed! Arnie leaves his wife, Andrea (Andie), sons Doug Allen (Debbie), Steve Allen (Cassie), Scott Allen (Julie), step sons Todd Phares (Belinda), Mark Phares (Mary Frances), brother Leo Allen (Jocelyn), brother in law Mike King (Sophie) and 15 grand children: Conner, Aidan, Lela, Lucas, Ariel, Lleyton, Jessica, Sean, Gavin, Kennedy, Owen, Griffin, Carstens, Curry and Annaben.
