Pearl Kaplan

It is with profound sadness that we mourn the passing of Pearl Kaplan (a”h); loving wife of Robert (Bob) for 51 years; cherished mother of David and Hillery Kaplan, Melissa Kaplan and Kariem Ali, and Danielle Kaplan and Clint Bishop; adored grandmother of Ellie, Maya, Zephram, and Ayelet. Pearl aka “Bubbie” was born in Queens, New York in 1948, and grew up in Brooklyn. As a young woman Pearl moved to California, where her new roommate invited her enlisted sailor cousin, Bob, to the house. Some love beads were exchanged along with letters to and from Vietnam, and after six months, Pearl (a”h) and Bob were married. In El Paso, Texas, they raised their three children as active members of Congregation B’nai Zion and helped establish the El Paso Hebrew Day School. In 2006, Pearl (a”h) and Bob moved to Austin to be active and involved grandparents and found a new home at Congregation Agudas Achim. Pearl (a”h) delighted in her work at the Shalom Austin Early Childhood Program and became known as the “ECP Bubbie,” greeting the kids and their families with big smiles and kindness. Pearl (a”h) knew that the essence of a community is a personal touch. After retiring, she was known for sending heart-felt, handwritten cards to CAA members and their families, wishing sympathy in times of sadness and mazel tov in times of simcha. Her greatest loves in life were working the daily crossword with Bob, being a full-time Bubbie, making Shabbat dinner and celebrating holidays, and singing zemirot. Pearl’s (a”h) greatest love of all was basking in the joy of being around her family. She was 74. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations may be made in Pearl’s (a”h) loving memory to CAA, Hadassah, or the cancer research organization of your choice.
