Romalda Ann Allsup

Romalda Ann Allsup, entrepreneur, artist, wife, and mother, died on December 5, 2024, at the age of 69. Born on June 25, 1955, in Washington, D.C., Romalda's vibrant spirit touched many lives, leaving a legacy of love, creativity, and dedication. A woman of diverse talents and passions, Romalda pursued higher education in literature and art, studying at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette and Texas Christian University before earning her degree in Literature and English from the University of Texas-Austin in 1978. It was in Austin that she found her true home and married the love of her life, Charles Edwards, in 1979, beginning a beautiful journey of partnership and devotion that spanned 45 years. Together, they raised three remarkable daughters, Sylvia Allsup-Edwards, Neeka Allsup-Edwards, and Natalie Allsup-Edwards, who carry forward her love of family, learning, and creativity. In 1978, Romalda and Charles co-founded Terra Toys, a cherished Austin institution specializing in specialty toys, children's books, kids' clothing (Dragonsnaps), and children's shoes (kidOshoes). Together, they nurtured Terra Toys into a beloved community hub, embodying their shared belief in the power of imagination and play. Through Terra Toys, Romalda and Charles brought joy to generations of children and parents alike. Romalda had an exceptional eye for beauty, which she expressed in all aspects of her life--from the thoughtful curation of toys to the artistic touches that enriched her home. Her ability to recognize and celebrate the beauty around her left an indelible mark on everyone she met. Romalda had an inspiring, ambitious drive. She was always doing something- painting, gardening, cooking fabulous meals. She was an avid reader, she loved travel, collecting things and playing bridge with her family. She had a clear, bright vision: how things should look, what she wanted, and things she wanted to accomplish. She had a rich, full life with many interests. Romalda's warmth, kindness, and humor will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and the Austin community. She is survived by her husband, Charles, and their daughters Sylvia, Neeka, and Natalie. In lieu of flowers and in celebration of Romalda's life, the family asks you do something good for the children that you know. For those moved to do so, Terra Toys will be collecting toys for donation to Travis County Sheriff's Brown Santa, a nonprofit, charitable organization providing toys to children during the holiday season. Romalda's life was a testament to the power of creativity, resilience, and love. Her memory will forever be a source of inspiration to all who knew her.
