Louis Craig Guzick

Louis Craig Guzick, age 44, of Austin, died unexpectedly Monday, August 24, 2026. Louis was born July 7, 1982, in Austin to Stan Guzick and the late Eileen Laves Guzick. A fourth-generation Austinite, Louis was a member of the Laves family, one of Austin's longstanding Jewish families. Louis grew up in Austin's Allandale neighborhood and was deeply connected to his family and the Austin Jewish community. He attended preschool at the former Jewish Community Center on Jollyville Road and grew up attending Congregation Beth Israel and Congregation Agudas Achim. He celebrated his Bar Mitzvah and participated in BBYO. Jewish tradition and family traditions were an important part of Louis's life. He cherished Passover, the High Holidays, Hanukkah, family birthdays, and the many traditions that brought his family together year after year. Louis shared a loving relationship with both of his parents and was especially close to his mother, Eileen. Her passing in 2004 remained a significant loss in his life. Louis was independent and could be quiet when first meeting someone. Once he became comfortable, however, his personality and sense of humor came through. Those who knew him well will remember his infectious smile that could light up a room. Louis was also competitive and liked being first. Whether playing tennis, video games, or participating in just about anything that could become a competition, Louis wanted to win. Louis enjoyed spending time with his family, going on family vacations, and attending live sporting events. His family also remembers his adventurous streak growing up, including his tendency as an adolescent to hop onto trolleys or enter elevators before an adult had a chance to catch up with him. These memories, and so many others, made Louis uniquely Louis and will be treasured by all who knew and loved him. His memory will be cherished by his father, Stan Guzick; his stepmother, Boonruan; his siblings and stepsiblings, Daniel Guzick, Joanna Pettas, Sabrina Cauthern, Laurie Fross, Debra Schultz, Howard Motch, and Wendy Motch; his beloved nieces and nephews, Jaxon Gill, William Cauthern, Ethan Cauthern, Mateo Barrios, and Breana Graves; his extended family; and his many friends. Louis was preceded in death by his beloved mother, Eileen Laves Guzick. Funeral and burial services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, August 28, 2026, at Austin Memorial Park Cemetery, 2800 Hancock Drive, Austin, Texas 78731. Rabbi Alan Freedman and Rabbi Neil Blumofe will officiate. Shiva and minyan information will be shared once arrangements have been finalized. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Louis's memory to the American Heart Association. Baruch Dayan HaEmet. May Louis's memory forever be a blessing.
