Carmine "Carmi" Blum

On 04 January 2020, Carmi Blum, age 76, passed away in the Seton Hospital ICU in the company of her husband of 53 years. Over the course of her life, Carmi enjoyed camping, folk dancing, Mah Jongg, bridge, traveling, cruising, going to musicals and ballet, partying with friends, chatting face-to-face and on the phone, and shopping, especially with coupons, sales, and freebies. More than anything else, Carmi loved and enjoyed her family. Carmi is survived by her husband, Eugene Blum, her daughter Laura Cowan and granddaughter Megan Cowan, her son, Andy Alegria and wife Mimi, her sister, Jody Gibson and husband David, niece Lisa and nephew, Ben, and her brother Dan Josephson. Many thanks to the doctors and nurses at Seton Hospital ER and ICU who worked valiantly all night and morning trying to save her. The immediate family attended the graveside funeral. CELEBRATION OF CARMI BLUM’S LIFE mit esn, trinken, un zingen . . . un shmuesn A celebration of Carmi’s life will be held on Sunday, 02 February 2020, 4:30 – 9:00 p.m., in the Smith Auditorium (Social Hall) at Congregation Beth Israel, 3901 Shoal Creek Blvd., Austin, Texas 78756. Park in the North parking lot and enter in the main (center) entrance adjacent to the circle drive. (There are 3 entry drives – the South parking lot, the circle drive (connected to the North parking lot), and the North parking lot.) First: shmuesn (to chat) & trinken (to drink): A small keg of Shiner Bock, coffee (reg & decaf), water, and associated cups will be provided. Otherwise, bring your own for which several chests of ice will be provided. Then: esn (to eat): Pot-luck (please NO SHELLFISH and NO PORK). Plastic plates, bowls, and eating utensils will be provided. Please provide a serving utensil with your dish. Then: organized shmuesn: Please bring a brief memory of Carmi to relate as we remember Carmi at her best (and not so best). Then: zingen (to sing) & shmuesn: Sing-along: Carmi very much enjoyed the sing-alongs we were part of over the last half century – especially folk songs from the 50s and 60s and old college drinking songs.
